What is a Witness?
Definition: A
Christian (believer in the gospel, Crucifixion, burial and resurrection) who
has the character of Jesus Christ and the good works that He foreordained
before the foundation of the world so that others would believe in Christ and
God would be glorified.

Luke 24:46 then He
said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to
suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,
Luke 24:47“and that
repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations,
beginning at Jerusalem”.
Luke 24:48 “And you
are witnesses of these things.
Luke 24:49 “Behold, I
send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem
until you are endued with power from on high.”
You cannot be a witness
until you have been endued with power from Heaven and that power is the person of
the Holy Spirit Who pours out gifts for ministry and changes your character
into the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Act 1:4 wait for the
Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me. Act 1:5 “for
John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit
not many days from now.” Act 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy
Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

What precedes the
coming power? Waiting and prayer precedes the coming of the Holy Spirit. Act
1:14 these all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the
women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
What does the power
look like? Act 2:1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with
one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 and suddenly
there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the
whole house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 then there
appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 and they were
all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the
Spirit gave them utterance.
After the baptism of
the Holy Spirit into your life then and only then will you be a witness. Act
2:14 But Peter, standing up (Ministry) with the eleven, raised his voice and
said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known
to you, and heed my words. Act 2:15 “For these are not drunk (Character), as
you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. Act 2:32 “This Jesus
God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.
The whole second
chapter of Acts speaks of the power of the Holy Spirit being displayed thru the
Disciples of Christ showing their character and good works. You see the fruit of
the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
The character that
God has given us: is to be like Christ. Rom 8:29 for whom He foreknew, He also
predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the
firstborn among many brethren. Christ dying on the cross gave us forgiveness of
sins and has crucified our old nature so we do not live any more like the world
but we keep ourselves from sin and live out of the new person in Christ which
He gave us when He was resurrected.
The Ministry Christ
gave us is the same as He had when He was on the earth. Luke 4:18 “The Spirit
of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the
poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the
captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are
oppressed; Luke 4:19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
The main ministry
that Jesus displayed was to love and He demonstrated this in many was by
preaching the Kingdom of God to the poor, feeding the poor and forgiving people
of their sins, healing the sick, healing those with emotional wounds. Christ
was curing all sicknesses and it was available to all people. Mat 10:7 “And as
you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Mat 10:8 “Heal the
sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have
received, freely give.
Our Christian life
should be no different then when Jesus Christ was on this earth. We should live
the same and do the same works. This is a true witness.
